Holiday Hot Picks

The sun is shining and finally the summer holidays are here! Whether you’re going abroad or staying in the UK, you’ll want some gorgeous products to help you look your very best, so I’ve handpicked my favourite ones to share with you. These were my go-to products on my recent holiday to Thailand, but there were also a few things I didn’t bring and wished I had, so I’ve covered these below too.

First and foremost is sun protection. For my body, it has to be Hawaiian Tropic – nothing beats the gorgeous smell, and it gives great protection. This year, I gave the new Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Protective Sun Lotion SPF15 (£15 for 180ml) a try. This product has hydrating ribbons, which made it feel really moisturising. Because it made my skin feel so lovely I was religious at applying it too! It allowed me to tan without burning, and my skin was so hydrated I didn’t flake at all.

I struggled for ages to find a facial sun cream that gave great protection but didn’t make my skin feel greasy or break out. Last year I discovered Ultrasun SPF 30 Anti-Ageing Very Sensitive Facial Sun Cream (£20 for 50ml) and found it perfect. It is a thick cream so feels like it should offer great protection and it does. However, it also absorbs right into the skin and one application lasts for hours. This product also comes in SPF50 – handy if your skin is really sensitive to the sun.

Unfortunately, like many people, my skin hates flying and protests by developing dry patches and breakouts. To get it back in balance, I have a thorough cleanse with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (£14 for 100ml or £15.50 for the starter kit including two muslin cloths), exfoliate with Ren Micro Polish Cleanser (£20 for 100ml) and finish with Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask (£23 for 100ml). I was really impressed with the charcoal mask which drew out impurities overnight and rebalanced my skin perfectly.

Heads up…Liz Earle currently have a limited edition Jasmine & Osmanthus Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which I’m dying to try (150ml plus two muslin cloths £20.75)!

Holiday Essentials Final

My all-time favourite body moisturiser is Lavera Organic Orange Feeling Revitalising Body Lotion (£8.45 for 150ml). It’s super-moisturising but absorbs quickly into the skin so I can dress as soon as I’ve applied it – perfect when I’m in a rush to get from the beach to happy hour at the rooftop cocktail bar! The smell of organic orange oil is so beautiful I skipped bringing perfume with me – a good job as my case was heavy enough!

I’m also a little obsessed with Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm (£5.99). In my opinion, Burts Bees make the best natural lip products on the market and I use them all year round. Every bag and coat I own has a Burts Bees lip product stashed in it so I’m never without one! Fortunately, a colleague of mine is equally obsessed so we frequently compare notes on new shades and scents. The Tinted Lip Balm is available in nine shades – my favourite is Pink Blossom. I used this in the day on holiday to give natural colour and moisture – just be careful not to leave it in direct sunlight as I did last year (and was subsequently rewarded with a melted mess)!

As you would expect from any beauty blogger worth their salt, I used Duty Free at the airport to treat myself to some new products. My favourite purchase was MAC Lipstick in Vegas Volt (£15.50) a gorgeous and very wearable coral colour that is just perfect for summer. It’s a shade that works for pretty much any skin tone – I have a medium-fair skin tone, but a friend who is of Jamaican descent used this on a recent weekend away and it also looked great on her.

To complete my evening make-up look I used Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder (£23.50) just underneath my cheekbones. Usually I like a shimmery bronzer, but a friend bought this as a gift for me and I actually really like the fact it is a matt powder. I find it provides more of a contrast when using highlighter along the top of your cheekbones – I used my firm summer favourite Benefit Sun Beam Golden Bronze Highlighter (£19.50) for a golden shimmer.

Something I will be adding to my suitcase next year will be products to help my makeup stay in place during hot and humid weather. Over the coming months I will be on the hunt for blotting sheets and perhaps a spray fix….I seem to remember MAC do a good one so I’d better start doing some research!

I’d love to know the products you can’t live without on your travels so please recommend away and give me a great excuse to indulge in some more products!
