As a beauty blogger, I’ve got a confession to make. I’m late to the primer party…like, really late. Despite totally buying into the virtues of using a primer – sealing pores and making foundation go on smoothly and last longer – I’ve just never got around to actually purchasing one.
Thankfully, this was rectified at a visit to my local bareMinerals concession. I have to be honest, I wasn’t intending to buy a primer – I was actually looking to try the new bareMinerals wonder product Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (£26.00 for 35ml). I saw this product advertised as a beauty balm, colour correcting cream and tinted moisturiser all-in-one, and wanted to find out if it was really as versatile and hard-working as it sounded.
Before applying the Complexion Rescue™ the bareMinerals lady asked me if I used a primer and I ashamedly had to confess that I did not. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she suggested I try the bareMinerals Prime Time™ BB Primer-Cream Daily Defense SPF 30 (£23.00 for 30ml). One application and I was hooked. It was like stroking liquid silk onto my skin, blending effortlessly and transforming into an almost powder-like finish. In fact, it gives a good enough finish that you can wear it alone for a really light and natural summer base. Since buying this and researching it further I’ve found loads of beauty bloggers raving about it and it has won awards from both Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan – praise indeed.
Skin now perfectly primed, the bareMinerals lady applied Complexion Rescue™. Again, I was instantly impressed. Compared to other tinted products I’ve tried, this one did not feel greasy at all and my skin was instantly glowing. It gave just the right amount of coverage for a natural look, although you can layer it to get a higher level of coverage.
What I also love about this product is that it is actually good for your skin, offering a 215% increase in hydration in just a week. It’s formulated without any nasties (no silicone, oil, parabens or fragrance), is non-comodogenic (i.e. won’t block pores) and hypoallergenic, so suitable for those with sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
Both these products have an SPF30 so are effective at protecting your skin from the effects of the environment. Also, a little goes a long way so they’ll last quite a while.
I’m now using these products as my daytime base, and using the primer underneath my usual foundation for nights out. If you’re looking for a natural, light summer base definitely give these products a try and let me know if you love them as much as I do.
