2016 Favourites So Far…

I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of February and this is my first blog post of the year! Rest assured, I have been busy trying lots of brands and products that are new to me and this post is dedicated to my favourites.

The first brand I’m sharing with you is Cerepharma, which was recommended to me by a friend. I tried products from the  ContrÂge and ClariFort ranges, both of which I was really impressed by. The ContrÂge Crème Réparatrice  Cellulaire (Cellular Repair Cream) is a luxuriously rich but non-greasy face cream which is packed full of vitamins A, C & E. It has a corrective, firming action and is anti-aging, plus it smells great too. I’d recommend it for normal to dry skin – my skin felt great after using it as a night cream.

The other Cerepharma product that really stood out was the ClariFort Sérum Seboperfect (Seboperfect Serum) which helps to deal with skin imperfections. My skin has had a few breakouts recently due to the shock of switching between cold weather and central heating frequently. I used this as I would a blemish treatment, applying on spots before bed. It worked really well to dry them out quickly and you only need a tiny amount.

Another new French brand I’ve been trying is Acorelle, who create natural and organic products containing essential oils. Their products have great credentials and are certified by Ecocert and Cosmebio. I have completely fallen for their Youth Protector Cleansing Oil ~ £17 for 125ml ~ www.lovelula.com which I got a full size bottle of for free with a Love Lula order last year (I’ve only just got round to trying it out). Having skin that is prone to breakouts, I would never usually choose a cleansing oil as it would seem to be a recipe for disaster, but this product has really converted me. It gives a really thorough cleanse and had no problem removing my heaviest foundation and eye make-up without any stinging. The plum oil and vitamin E leave your skin super-soft and not at all greasy. Acorelle recommend rinsing the product off with warm water, but I found using a damp cloth to be more effective. A little goes a really long way too so it works out at exceptionally good value. I can see this little beauty being a regular on my bathroom shelf!

Having taken a recent trip to the USA, I’ve been enjoying American beauty brands of late, including John Masters Organics. This is another brand with an excellent philosophy towards natural beauty and is endorsed by PETA. John Masters Organics majors on hair products but also has some really good bodycare too. I tried the Orange & Ginseng Exfoliating Body Bar ~ £7 for 4.5oz ~ http://www.johnmasters.co.uk. This funky bar contains pieces of orange and lemon peel to act as gentle exfoliants, and is suitable for all over body use. The first time you use it it doesn’t feel very exfoliating, but once the top layer of the bar has been washed off you can feel the gentle exfoliating pieces. This is another product which offers great value, as the bar lasts ages. It would be perfect for travelling with – I’ll definitely invest in one of these next time I go away so I don’t worry about shower gel leaking in my bag.

The bar is also available in moisturising lavendar, rose geranium and ylang ylang, and cleansing birch and cedarwood. Brands like John Masters Organics are excellent proof that natural beauty can be just as luxurious and effective as chemical-laden traditional designer brands. For those of you who have pets, I noticed that John Masters Organics also have pet shampoo and conditioner – I may just have to treat my two pooches!

The final two products are both from brands I’ve used before but these particular products are new to me. First up is Yes to Carrots Daily Moisture Body Lotion ~ £9.99 for 350ml ~ www.yesto.co.uk (buy from www.feelunique.com)I tried the Yes To range last year and really liked the Yes To Coconuts Head to Toe Hydrating Balm (read my review here). This time, I wanted to try a slightly lighter body moisturiser, so ordered the Daily Moisture Body Lotion. The lotion is made from carrots and sweet potatoes which provide nourishment to the skin. Reassuringly, the product is not orange, nor does it leave you smelling like  carrots! It actually has a pleasant, mild scent so won’t overpower any perfume you might want to wear. It provides a good moisture hit but isn’t greasy or oily so you can dress straight after applying it without worrying about marking your clothes. The pump dispenser is perfect for wet hands and I think it is an absolute bargain, especially when you consider it is 97% natural ingredients, with no petroleum, SLS or parabens and is cruelty free. It is a great everyday body moisturiser.

The final product I can’t live without at the moment is my Burts Bees Lip Crayon ~ £8.99 ~ www.burtsbees.co.uk. These are available in the UK (I’ve seen them in John Lewis and on the UK Burts Bees website) but I picked mine up as part of my USA beauty haul. They are one of Burts Bees newest products and have received excellent reviews so I couldn’t wait to get my mitts on one! Those of you who are regulars to my blog will probably know that Burts Bees are my favourite lip balms (see my previous post here) but this is the first lip crayon I’ve ever tried. It has completely converted me! It has the full colour coverage of a lipstick with the moisturising properties of a balm with shea butter, kendi oil and jojoba oil, but doesn’t bleed and is really long-lasting. It has matte finish which is really on-trend at the moment and you never have to sharpen it – it just twists up. I keep one in my workbag as it is perfect for travelling with. The crayons contain no added flavour or fragrance and come in six gorgeous shades – I love Niagara Overlook which is a gorgeous pinky colour but I’d also like to try Napa Vineyard and Hawaiian Smolder.
