Autumn/Winter 2016 Trends

Over the last week or so there have been definite hints that autumn is on its way and I’ve been fighting the urge to dig out my chunky knits, curl up with a book and drink mugs of hot chocolate. So what better way to embrace the change in seasons than to attend my first ever bloggers event and admire the gorgeous autumn/winter 2016 fashion and beauty trends at intu, Milton Keynes. intu is what the Milton Keynes population affectionately refers to as ‘the new bit’ of the City Centre, even though it’s been around for more years than I care to remember.

It’s been a little while since I’d been to intu and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of lovely new shops that have sprung up – there are definitely more shops that appeal to me, with lots of high end stores. I’m reliably informed there are some more exciting shops on the way over the coming months so it’s definitely a good place to start your Christmas shopping (I’m not even going to apologise for mentioning Christmas in September). It was also really nice to meet some fellow MK bloggers and put faces to the blogs!

Each blogger was given an assignment tailored to their individual blogs which was really fun. My first task was ‘purple reign’ – seeking out the gorgeous berry tones that are so popular this season. First off, I headed to Zara. Whatever I’m looking for, I can normally find it here, and sure enough I was spoilt for choice. I was immediately drawn to a gorgeous plum coloured pencil skirt, which was made of lovely, thick material – perfect for smoothing any lumps or bumps (unfortunately I’m much in need of this at the moment, having been a total slacker with exercise lately). I paired it with a casual black cold shoulder top – I’ve been dying to get a cold shoulder top and this one is made of beautifully soft knitwear that feels really luxurious. This is exactly the kind of outfit I’ll wear when off having dinner with the girls. I also found a cute checked mini skirt that would look great with tights and knee-high boots.

Next I headed to Office because shoes are without a doubt my absolute weakness. Now I know chunky, low heels are in at the moment but I’m just not that kind of girl – I need height in a heel. So I skip straight past all the low/flat heels until I reach my mecca; the stilettos. Straight away I spot the perfect purple pair of heels (try saying that after a few glasses of prosecco). This beauties had a suede feel and will go with anything from dresses to jeans. I also fell in love with these leopard print and snakeskin heels, and the lace-up boots are to die for (it’s my birthday soon, so who knows, I may get lucky). They also have a great selection of kids shoes, which I hadn’t realised.

After that, it’s on to New Look. I love how affordable New Look is – I can pick up loads of stuff for the new season without breaking the bank. Also, they have some of the best changing rooms in intu, well-lit and nicely decorated (this matters when you’re blogging). Here I found a gorgeous, chunky, blush-coloured, cold shoulder top (yes, more cold shoulder but in my defence it’s everywhere this season). I layered this with a berry coloured, silky bomber jacket. I love this kind of outfit for a casual movie night. While I was in New Look I also spotted this lovely grey sleeveless jacket, which would be fabulous layered with a jumper and scarf.

Task one now complete, I moved onto task two – a trip to Lush to find a berry lip colour and a face mask to combat the colder weather. As always, the staff in Lush were friendly and helpful without being at all pushy. On their advice, I chose the Cosmetic Warrior face mask which has tons of garlic in it (I’ve been reassured it won’t leave me smelling of garlic) and is aimed at skin like mine that is prone to breakouts. I also found a gorgeous shimmery berry lip colour. The packaging is really unusual – a cute glass jar with a wand. It is very pigmented and is thick enough that it won’t bleed.

Both tasks complete, it was time to reward myself with a little trip into Coast, whose window display was just too gorgeous to resist. All sensible thoughts of just window shopping flew out of my head the minute I saw a gorgeous blush pink cape with fur trim. Capes are huge at the minute and I don’t have one, so it would have been crazy not to have bought it! Now happily shopped out, I head home with my purchases and my fantastic intu goody bag to plan my next blog posts.
